Marcus books is the oldest black owned book store in the country. It sells books by and about Black people and more. Opened for business in 1960 on Fillmore Street in San Francisco, California, while the second location opened in Berkeley California in 1974 only to move operations to 3900 MLK Way in Oakland later that decade. Both stores routinely have held 'in store' author book signings, speaker presentations, discussions and interviews with international political, social and cultural luminaries.

Marcus Books stocks over 10,000 published titles ranging from children readers, to fiction and literature, politics, science and nature, self improvement, biographies, history and cookbooks, to self published Hip Hop street authors..Many special titles that are not found anywhere else.
