Sheba Piano Lounge & Restaurant
Sheba Piano Lounge dishes up vibrant, authentic Ethiopian cuisine and an eclectic weekly program of live music. Executive Chef Netsanet Alemayehu made a name for herself with her first restaurant Sheba, which she established in Oakland after moving to the Bay Area from Addis Abada, Ethiopia in 1976.
Alemayehu opened Sheba Piano Lounge in San Francisco’s Fillmore in 2006. The menu includes classic Ethiopian dishes served atop Ethiopia’s indigenous bread, injera, such as Tibs Wat: beef simmered in berbere sauce and the Ethiopian clarified butter known as nit’ir kibe. Sheba Piano Lounge also offers Ethiopian riffs on American fare such as the popular Drunken Chicken Drumettes glazed in a rousing mixture of tequila, honey wine and berbere spices. The cocktail list includes ethnic twists on classics such as the Red Sea, an Ethiopian-style Bloody Mary spiced with sherry and mitmita spices. Sheba Piano Lounge offers an array of live music: from Afro-Cuban jazz to violin soloists, almost every night of the week.
